Homemade Biscuits


Classic Recipe

Ingredients:
2 cup Flour
1 Tbsp baking Powder
1/2 tsp Cream of Tarter
2 tsp Sugar
1/4 tsp Salt
2/3 cup Milk
     -or 1/2 heavy cream
1/2 c Shortening 
     -or Butter

Preheat Oven to: 450 degrees

Directions:
Mix together flour, baking powder, cream of tarter and salt. cut in shortening or butter, til crumbly. Make a well in the center and add milk all at once. Stir until just moistened.  Gently knead on a floured board 10-12 strokes. Roll out to 1/2" thick. Cut out with floured biscuit cutter. Place in greased pan, flipping once to coat both sides. 

Bake for 10-12 minutes. 

Special Tips or Information:
* Use a biscuit cutter, cookie cutter, drinking glass or a tin can cut out on both ends.

Additional Comments:

Buttermilk Biscuits:
Replace milk with 3/4 c. buttermilk + 1/4 tsp. baking soda. 

Cornbread Biscuits:
Reduce flour to 1 1/2 cups + 1/2 cup cornmeal

Cheese Biscuits:
Add 1/2 cup shredded cheese to milk

Quantity: Makes 10 biscuits, 2 1/2" round
