Homemade Croutons

Ingredients: 
Day Old Bread
     -French Bread or
     -Reg White Bread
     -Texas Toast Thick Bread
Olive Oil

Desired Seasonings:
Salt & Pepper
Red Pepper Flakes
Parmesan Cheese

Italian Seasonings:
Garlic Powder
Oregano
Sweet Basil
Parsley


Preheat Oven to: 400 degrees

Directions:

Cut bread into cubes and place in a large bowl. 

Drizzle cubes with olive oil. Add desired seasonings & toss well.

Spread the cubes onto a baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes.

Let cool completely and store in a ziplock bag or jar. 


Additional Comments:
If you have a Herb Garden, this is a great way to use up your stock. (See Herb Drying)

Making your own croutons produces a product that you can actually eat, without breaking your teeth like a lot of commercial packaged croutons.  They are light with just the right amount of crunch. A perfect addition to any salad or even for soup toppers. 


Don't throw away that stale bread....make croutons instead! Make different flavors for different uses.  Plain Salt & Pepper and Italian Herb are two versatile flavors.
